Primary School's Sports Funding

Click here for the Department of Education link to the Primary School's Sports Funding page.

What is the Sports Premium?

The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15 to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding’. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of Funding

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Possible uses for the funding include:

  • Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
  • New or additional Change4Life sport clubs
  • Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
  • Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
  • Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
  • Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
  • Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs

PE Funding 2015/16

£2350 – Our schools contribution towards employing Mrs Aileen Hunt   ( Former SSCO for the Carlton Cluster School Sport Partnership).

  • We are one of 8 local primary schools who elected to use a proportion of our PE funding to continue the fantastic work which was undertaken during the School Sports Partnership scheme.
  • As we are geographically so close to Holy Family where Mrs Hunt is based, I feel we as a school receive optimum benefit from this use of our PE funding.

What did we receive this year as a result of our partnership with Mrs Hunt and Holy Family School?

Events

  • Indoor athletics
  • Key Steps Gymnastics
  • Tri-Golf
  • Quad athletics
  • High 5 Netball
  • Cricket competition
  • Rounders tournament
  • Multi-skills taster sessions
  • Gifted/talented sessions
  • Cross country
  • Dance Festival

Coaching

  • Mrs Hunt trained 20 playground leaders
  • 30 of our pupils attended lunchtime fitness sessions to help train up young leaders from Holy Family
  • Mrs Hunt trained our Key Steps gymnastic team and trained me at the same time

Meetings

Mrs Hunt organises termly meetings where all 8 schools get together and plan inter school competitions and events. At these meetings she often invites guest speakers who might be coaches/ local clubs etc who can tell us what they can offer us as schools. ( It was from one of these that I booked the mobile climbing wall for year 6)

I feel Mrs Hunt is a massive bonus for our PE curriculum and extra-curricular provision. She provides support to me and takes away much of the competitive sport organisation- offering many and varied opportunities for pupils to participate in events against other schools. This leaves me time to organise events within school.
