Parents' Forum

Purpose

Regular, open communication and consultation is very important to Carlton-in-Snaith Primary School. The biggest factor influencing the success of a child is the parents/carers. The parent forum aims to represent the views of all parents and to be a voice to inform our school of the needs of children and their families. It will facilitate two–way communication between parent carers and staff and governors. The forum will work to provide feedback on provision, offer a parents’ perspective on current policy and practice and input into decision making and planning for future provision. This will take place by:

  • Regular communication with parent/carers’
  • Ensuring a diverse forum membership and representation of diverse views from parent/carers’ from all backgrounds and sectors of the community.
  • The forum is not in place to address concerns about an individual child. Parents who need to discuss these issues should approach their class teacher or the headteacher, as appropriate.

Membership

The parent forum’s membership will be made up of carers and parents of children attending Carlton-in-Snaith Primary School . We aim to have at least one parent representative for each class. Where there are gaps parents will be invited at random and asked to join. Staff representatives are also members of the forum.

Meetings

Parent forum meetings will be held at least once a term. Meetings are led by the Headteacher, are informal and offer a genuine opportunity for open discussion.

Any parent/carer of a child can put an item on the agenda by asking a parent representative to bring it to the attention of the chair of committee, or by sending a message to the school office. It may not be possible to address every topic raised at each meeting and some topics may be carried forward. The following table gives examples of topics that would be suitable for discussion at the Parents’ Forum and examples of topics that are not within the Forum’s remit:

Example topics that can be addressed:

  • Views on school provision e.g. trips, visitors, learning environment, outside area
  • Fundraising and social events

Example topics that cannot be addressed:

  • Specific concerns about an individual child
  • Issues relating to individual members of staff

The Chair of Governors will be invited to attend parent forum meetings as appropriate.
