Newsletter – Term 2 Week 8 - March 8th 2019

Posted 8/3/2019

Welcome to our weekly bulletin. I hope this find you well.

Book week:

What a week! Firstly, thank you for your efforts in ensuring book week has been so successful, this as you know, has ended with a fantastic Dress Up day. Every single child has come dressed as a character from a book and look brilliant.  THANK YOU for supporting this lovely fun day that promotes a real love of reading.

In addition, we had a great attendance and support at our stay and read sessions throughout the week. Thanks again!  As I write this, I am sure that many people will be joining us for the book-week character parade this afternoon. Thanks in advance to Friends of Carlton for supporting this.

Overall a super book week in school

We also had some feedback this week from a very important visitor. He said:

“What a fabulous day I had in your wonderful school. There's an amazing spirit amongst your pupils and your staff, and the welcome is just superb I felt like a part of the school as soon as I came in.”

Richard O’Neill, Author.

Thanks to Mrs Burton for booking the wonderful Mr O’Neill to work with, inspire and engage with our wonderful readers and writers.

Ofsted:

On another note we also had some other important visitors in school this week. As you are all aware, we had the OFSTED team in school on Tuesday and Wednesday to carry out a Section 5, 2-day inspection.

You may not be aware but school only get notified the day before the inspection occurs. I have to say I was a little taken aback by the timing of the call on Monday, having been told in June 2018 that OFSTED would be returning in 12-24 months, then to have them back after 9 months. However, as I regularly say to the staff team, we don’t do things for OFSTED we do things daily for the children of our school, so we obviously welcomed the team into school for 2 days of intense scrutiny.

At this point I am not able to share with you the outcomes (and I’m not even allowed to tell staff!). However, in approximately 2 weeks’ time the Governors and I will be sharing with you the finalised report and judgements as soon as we receive them. I however know that we continue to be a positive, vibrant and improving school, which I am extremely proud to be head teacher of.

I am also lucky to have such a brilliant group of children, a committed and hardworking team and a supportive Governing Board to work with. The school team and I are also extremely grateful for your continued support. The feedback from the parental body to the inspectors was so overwhelmingly positive! THANK YOU! The OFSTED team commented that we had an unusually supportive response to their survey and all people who were spoken to spoke highly of what we do and the direction we are heading.

Next week and beyond:

  • Next Friday (15/3/19) is Red Nose Day – we will be allowing children to wear non-uniform for a donation to this charity. We will also allow children to wear red noses or red nose merchandise.
  • Wednesday 20th March we have our Book Bus booked and there will be a holiday phonics workshop for parents of Children in year 1 and Reception (Oak and Ash Classes) at 9.00am. More information to follow next week.

As always thank you for your continued interest and support of our school.

Best wishes
