Head teacher’s Newsletter: Term 1Week 1, Friday 8th September 2017

Welcome Back

Welcome to the first newsletter of the new academic year. I am delighted to officially welcome everyone back to school. On behalf of the whole school team, we hope you have had a great summer break and enjoyed some quality time together with loved ones.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome some new families to Carlton in Snaith Community Primary School, both to families with children joining in our Reception class (this week and next) and in older year groups too. We’ve had quite a few new starters in school this week and they’ve already made a good impression with their smiles, enthusiasm and good attitudes.

We are also delighted to hear about and see some of our Sapphire pupils popping back into school this week following their positive start to Year 7, both at Holy Family and the Snaith School.

Our first group of Reception new starters began their time at Carlton in Snaith CPS this week too. What a brilliant bunch we have in Pluto so far!  They have been so positive, mature, confident and enthusiastic. Our rest of the intake begin next Monday – we look forward to them joining the team too! A great start so far!

What a welcome the weather gave us all on Tuesday. The rain was torrential at drop off but did not take the shine off a super start to the term.

THANK YOU

I am so very proud of the children and the start that they have made in classes. The atmosphere has been calm, productive and enthusiastic. Long may that continue! Well done everyone.

The staff team have come back with such enthusiasm and a ‘ready brek’ style glow about them, ready for a brilliant year ahead. THANKS to all of the team.

I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am of the staff team for their efforts over the summer. We have been working hard to replace furniture, improve learning areas, and general presentation and décor around school. A big thank you to Mr Cooper and the whole staff team for the preparation of the school building over the summer. Very much appreciated!

I would like to give a special mention to Mr Jim Wood (Vice Chair of Governors) and Mr Dave Bramley for their amazing efforts with maintenance and improvement to school over the summer. They have given up so much time and skill to really make a positive impact on our school. Words are not enough – THANK YOU!

A special mention also needs to go to Howden’s kitchens for their wonderful support of Carlton in Snaith CPS. Their generosity has been fantastic and they have transformed a key area of school for both staff and pupils alike.

Overall I am a very happy head teacher - I am really pleased with the manner in which the staff team have ensured it has been a really great start to the term, with children settling into their new classes and classrooms quickly.

A rough guide to House Points   -    G.G.O.O.

We have launched our House Point system in school with staff and pupils. We are following a simple and hopefully effective way of awarding points. The rough guide is as follows:

1 HP for doing something ‘Good’

2 HP for doing something ‘Great’

3 HP for doing something ‘Outstanding’

4 HP for doing something ‘Out of this world’

House points are meaningful and are earned!  We hope that this will be a really simple, consistent and effective reward system that fits in with all of our school approaches.

Special mentions

I just wanted to remind everyone about arrangements for Special mentions and Celebration assemblies. We hold our special mention assemblies every fortnight on a Friday afternoon, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. Invitations will be sent out for all children who are due to receive a special mention. If you can’t make that date and can come a fortnight later then let us know and re will ‘roll it over’! You could always see if another family member can come along if you would prefer. Our first Special mention assembly is next Friday (15th September).

Other important information:

  • PLEASE ensure all children have their names in all of their school uniform.

  • A reminder that Tuesday 12th September is Meet the Teacher event in school - Arrival at 5.15 for a 5.30 start, 6.00pm finish.  Like last year, we have planned this event as an informal and positive way to start the school year. Parents are invited to join their child’s class teacher for a short talk and presentation. We aim to outline key information about the school year and explain other important routines and systems etc.  Similar information will be shared by all teachers so if you have more than one child and only one parent can attend, then you won’t be missing out. We hope you can join us.

  • Swimming starts on Tuesday 12th September for Year 3 and Year 4 pupils. Please ensure that you have returned your permission slip ASAP.

I will be sharing more important information over the next few weeks. Thanks for your positivity and enthusiastic start to the new term.

A great start to the year - Here’s to great term and year ahead!

Regards and best wishes
