Head teacher’s bulletin – term 3 Week 8, Friday 21st June 2019

Posted 21/6/2019

Welcome to our weekly bulletin.

This week:

On Tuesday afternoon, I looked out of my office window and for a split second thought we had snow in June! School has been covered in blossom which I understand is from the poplar trees on our school perimeter. We have never seen it in such huge quantities before!

We have had lots of lovely events happening in school this week. Elm class (Mr Brooks’ year 3&4 class) held their learning assembly and learning party on Wednesday morning. We enjoyed hearing about their Carlton topic, which included metacognition work, geography fieldwork, maths data handling work and Carlton inspired fiction writing.  Thanks to all who came to support the event. Well done to Elm class and to Mr Brooks.

For the third year in a row we were delighted to hold a tea party for older member of our community on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Whisker and Mrs Isset’s Pine class (year 4/5) organised, hosted and entertained this lovely event as part of their ‘Archie’ (Archbishop of York) project work. It once again was such a super event and the staff team were incredibly proud of the manners, respect and confidence the Pine children demonstrated.  Thank you to the staff team, the children and all who attended – one of my favourite afternoons of the year!

This week we have also had class photographs taken (Thursday) and enjoyed our Friends from Carlton Methodist church leading their ‘Open the book assembly’ on Monday.  Year 5 and 6 also took part in the NSPCC safety workshops on Tuesday.

Staff, on behalf of school, also paid our respects to former Chair of Governors Margaret Hulme on Monday.

Next week:

  • Assessment week for all classes (other than Y2 and Y6 children)
  • Beech (Mrs Burton’s year 2&3) class: Wednesday 26th June 9.15 am start
  • Oak (Mrs Smith’s Reception) class: Friday 28th June 9.15am
  • Sports Day on Friday 28th June (weather permitting!). You should have received a letter with more information about this event.

This is an extremely busy time of year in school. We are preparing for end of year events, producing reports for all children in school and planning lots of exciting things for next year. After a final few tweaks, next week I will be sharing with you class structure for September 2019 and will be writing to year 6 parents about other end of term arrangements.

Have a great weekend.

Kind regards

Jon Watson
