Term 3 Week 9 – Monday 24th June 2019

Welcome as always to our weekly bulletin.

This week:

We have had an exceedingly busy week in school including 2 wonderful learning assemblies.

On Wednesday, Mrs Burton’s Beech class informed and entertained us with their Chocolate themed assembly.  They shared English work (stories & poems) History facts. Geography knowledge and Design Technology expertise with us, all tied into Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They also made us feel hungry talking about chocolate!

Today, Friday 28th, we enjoyed seeing the ‘Mighty Oak’ class, led by Mrs Smith sharing all they know about life cycles, singing songs, talking about their hands on experience with animals and showing us their brilliant attitudes to learning as well as their growing confidences!

Very well done to Beech class and Oak class!

Also crammed into an extremely busy and positive week have been 3 NYCC Adviser visits, a visit from the ‘English Hub’, Assessment week for the children in Year 1, 3, 4, & 5, Play group and Nursery visits and new parents meeting for children joining us in Reception/Aire class in September to name just a few!

The children also enjoyed Teddy Bear’s picnic on Thursday lunchtime.

As I write this bulletin we are clearly looking forward to a super sports day event this afternoon. A huge thank you to Mrs Mackintosh for overseeing the organisation of this event.

Important info:

  • Please see attached information regarding our proposal to alter the end of the school day for September. Within this document, I have outlined and explained our thought process behind the proposal.  The only change/proposal is that school will finish at 3.15pm (instead of 3.30pm). Following NYCC policy we have officially entered the ‘consultation process’ for this proposal and we are aiming for this change to take place for September 2019. As part of this process I will be holding a meeting on Friday 5th July at 4.00pm with our Chair of Governors, Dr Helen Snowden, to discuss this matter with anyone who would like to attend. Please do read the attached document for your information.
  • Next week will be the last week for clubs. This is with the exception of Friday’s internally run clubs (Badminton and Film Club) as they have had to be cancelled this week due to Sports Day so will run for an additional week. Doncaster Rovers continues to run for the duration of the term.
  • Class structure for September 2019 - Class structure and pupil allocations will be circulated on Monday.

Next week

We are looking forward to:

  • Pine class (Mrs Issit’s Year 4/5 class) Learning assembly on Tuesday 2nd July (9.15am start)
  • Pine class (Mrs Issit’s Year 4/5 class) singing at the ‘Selby sings’ events at Selby Abbey on Thursday 4th July
  • Year 6 children also have a number of transition days across the next few weeks.

If you are attending the Carlton Summer Fete, I hope you have a great time! Good luck to Matilda (Queen) and Josh (King) for their special part in this lovely community event.

Enjoy the sun this weekend. Thanks for your continued support!

Kind regards

Jon Watson
