Bulletin Term 2, Spring 1, Week 4, 31st January 2020

Posted 31/1/2020

Welcome to our weekly newsletter.

There has been a lovely geographical feel around school these past few weeks as we enjoy our ‘What a Wonderful World’ theme – where geography is the driving lead subject. Many classes are currently immersed in map work, whether focussed on our school itself, our local community or further afar. Derwent class have also been enjoying tasting, practising skills and then making their own soup – the smells drifting around school were beautiful on Wednesday! I have been very impressed by the mature work ethic and efforts of our Year 6 Trent children when I visited them this week.

Mrs Scrafton (School Business Manager) and I have been doing a lot of planning regarding next financial year, and the next school year ahead. We are pleased that early indications are that we will be having a good-sized Reception cohort joining us in September 2020. All of the new homes at Carlton Green are now sold, I understand and one look at the sudden progress in the second phase of development next door at the Hawthorns shows that we will soon be having more families arriving in the village over the coming months and hopefully coming to our school.

Next week and beyond:

  • A reminder that if you have signed up for a school-led, after-school, extracurricular club that these start next week.
  • We are very much looking forward to seeing what Miss Watling’s Calder class have been up to when they have their learning assembly on Wednesday 5th February. We look forward to welcoming any Calder parents who can attend the assembly and also warmly invite those who can to stay for some further learning activities that morning. As you may know, each class has the opportunity once a year to share their learning with the rest of the school and to parents/family members.
  • We have also agreed that our Year 6 children will work with other local schools supporting the local community Dementia Awareness event ‘All you need is love’ at Drax Club on Thursday 13th February . Like last year, we are working with Reverend Becky Alright for this lovely event where the Year 6 pupils will be singing a song or two.
