Bulletin Term 1Week 7, 19th October 2018

Posted 19/10/2018

The old cliché of ‘Time flies when you are having a good time’ rings true! It is quite hard to believe that we have already had 7 weeks back of term, and have only one week before the half term break. At this time of course we look forward to our traditional end of October activities like the Harvest festival and the Carlton conker competition!

It has been a busy week in school with lots of success. As well as the usual busy, productive classroom activity, other highlights include:

  • Willow class (Y6) enjoyed their bike-ability 2 day training on Monday and Tuesday
  • A large and strong team of cross-country runners for our KS2 classes attending the Holy Family Cross County Championship.
  • Another successful Friends of Carlton event - on Tuesday we held a movie night in school. The IT gremlins tried their best to dampen the fun, but did not succeed!  A huge thank you to Mrs Pemberton and all of the Friends team for their efforts as always.
  • On Wednesday our Year 3&4 boys football team took part in an enjoyable and successful tournament at Doncaster Rovers Keepmoat Stadium, reaching the quarter finals. Well done to all!
  • On Thursday Beech (Y2/3) and Elm (Y3/4) classes enjoyed a super hands on learning experience in St Mary’s, our local church. Reverend Alright and Rev Burr, with a team of volunteers provided a super experience for the children. I was lucky enough to pop in and see part of a session and was delighted with the listening, attitudes and collaboration on display.
  • On Thursday afternoon, following up on  their recent trip to Selby Abbey, Pine Class (Y4/5) had a visit from a local archaeologist

Bingo Night - We end the week with another additional activity – tonight (Friday 19th October) is our whole school pantomime fundraiser Bingo Night! Hall doors open at 6.30 and first game at 7.00pm. Light refreshments will be served. We look forward to this event and hope you can support it!

Absence – Unfortunately Mrs Mackintosh has been unwell. We wish her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back at school fit and well very soon.

Next week –

  • Monday 22nd  – open afternoon by appointment  for new  pupils & parents to school (for Sept 2019)
  • Tuesday 23rd – Parent teacher Consultations 1.20 to 6.00pm by appointment - a chance for you to talk to your child’s teacher and find out how your child has settled into the new school year.
  • Wednesday 24th Harvest festival – 10.00am St Mary’s Church, Carlton. All welcome.  If you would like to walk to church with us please join us at school at 9.40am.

As always we are welcoming donations of fresh produce and tinned, packet goods for our traditional Harvest produce sale. All money raised is spent on the older members of our local community and on the children of the school.

  • Thursday 25th  - Conker competition in school
  • Friday 26th The Mighty Zulu Nation visit school.  A highly exciting and sensory stimulating workshop day that will be a brilliant experience for the children. Parents are welcome to

attend an ‘assembly performance from 2.50pm

What an action packed last week of half term!

Thanks as always for your support of our school. Have a good weekend

Kind regards
