Bulletin Term 1 Week 5, Friday 4th October 2019

Posted 4/10/2019

Welcome to this week’ bulletin.

Robinwood: For many children in Year 4 and 5 from Humber and Ouse class this week has been all about their Robinwood residential adventure trip. As I write this I know the children are enjoying their final day of what has been a really enjoyable and wonderful 3 day experience.  I am sure they will be talking about it for a long time to come.

The children (and staff) were in great spirits (as well as being very tired) when I visited them last night. I really enjoyed hearing their stories of resilience, bravery and collaboration. I also loved hearing from the staff team and centre staff about how superb the behaviour and attitudes have been too!  Well done to all of the children for their efforts!

A special mention and thank you to the staff team members who have given their all to the trip too! Thank you Mrs Longfield, Miss Marshall, Miss Johnson and Mrs Mackintosh (and Mrs Pierce).

St Mary’s visit: Derwent class (and some pupils from Humber) enjoyed an enjoyable and informative trip to St Mary’s church in Carlton yesterday (Thursday 3rd October) with Rev Becky and the team. They had a good morning and learnt lots! Thanks to Rev Becky and the St Mary’s team for facilitating this for us.

Scarecrows and stay and share – Thank you :  Last week ended with many parents and family members helping make scarecrows in classes. THANK YOU very much for your help and support with this. They will be used as part of this  year’s Carlton Scarecrow Trail. This will take place on Sunday 13th October. The Scarecrow theme this year is 'jobs'.

Harvest Festival: Next Friday is our Harvest festival. It is slightly earlier in the school calendar this year but actually more in line with Harvest time. We are heading to St Mary’s on Friday 11th October for our Harvest Service. All families are welcome to join us at 10.00am. If anyone would like to walk to church with the children please join us at school at 9.40am.

We also welcome donations for harvest next week too. Traditionally, everyone brings in something on the day itself – we welcome this or in advance! Dried goods and tins are welcomed, or fresh produce on the day itself. We will be having a traditional sale at 3.00pm on Friday 11th October. All monies raised are used to buy gifts for older members of community at Christmas time.

Eyes down for a full house! As a fundraiser we are once again holding a Bingo Night in school  - this is on Friday the 18th October 2018  in the school hall. Doors open at 6.30pm and first game at 7.00pm. All monies raised go directly to the cost of the whole school attending the pantomime in December. This was a great event last year (and the year before!) and helps to subside the trip for all pupils.  We would love to see you there!

If you are able to donate a raffle price as part of this fundraiser, we would very much appreciate it. Please liaise with the school office or myself.

Reminders:

  • Panto trip payments ASAP please!
  • ‘Big Me’ -  our dress up day on Friday 18th October  - the children come dressed appropriately for a job or career they may want to have in the future!
  • Safety Reminder: Once again please may I remind all members of our community to park with care and consideration for everyone (children, parent and local residents).  Pinch points of the start and end of day are busy in Town End Avenue and nearby streets. Please be respectful. Let us all work together to keep everyone safe!  A huge thank you everyone who always does this!

Next week you will receive a letter about parent teacher consultations. These are planned for Wednesday 23rd October.

For those children who have been at Robinwood this week  I hope a good soak and a lot of sleep is planned – that might just be the staff! Have a great weekend! Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Kind regards
