Bulletin Term 1 Week 4, Friday 28th September 2018

Posted 28/9/2018

Welcome to our weekly bulletin. As the autumnal weather has begun, with daily changing temperatures we have had the first round of absentees (both staff and pupils) this week.  Doctor Watson prescribes fresh air and lots of relaxation and extra sleep this weekend to chase away colds and general lurgies!

Safety: Please may I remind all members of our community to park with care and consideration for everyone (children, parent and local residents).  Pinch points of the start and end of day are busy in Town End Avenue and nearby streets. Please be respectful. Let us all work together to keep everyone safe!  A huge thank you everyone who always does this!

A huge Thank you to our Friends of Carlton group who I briefly met with this week. They continue their amazing support our school, regularly fundraising for the children of our school. Of course, without your support of the activities they organise, this brilliant partnership would not be possible.  Well done all!

Friends will be circulating their newsletter and updates to you in due course. On a personal and professional level I am extremely grateful for all of their hard work and efforts – very much appreciated!

European Day of Languages:

On Thursday we enjoyed celebrating our annual European day of languages – see class updates for more details. Thanks to Mrs Mackintosh and the class teachers for making this an entraining and engaging event in school. Each class had a chosen European country and took part in various activities including food sampling and dancing. Thank you too to Friends of Carlton for covering the financial cost of this day.

Trying Financial Times:

I read with interest this week about the planned ‘Head teacher Protest’ to Downing Street, about lack of finance for schools and real terms decreasing budgets. Without being too political, it is very interesting to know that so many schools, both in North Yorkshire and nationally, are facing extreme challenges to continue the great work they aim to deliver, with ever-increasing pressure on budgets. Carlton in Snaith CPS, like every school I know is very much in this category – we are trying to do our very best within the tight financial constraints we are functioning within.

Marvellous Me:

Thank you to everyone who has now signed up to this brilliant and positive app. We now have over 80% of children with at least one parent on board. If you haven’t already done so, please join the growing masses!

Scarecrow Festival:

This year’s Carlton Scarecrow Trail will take place on Sunday 7th October 1-4pm. The Scarecrow theme this year is 'Musicals' any parents wishing to make a scarecrow can either message Carlton Playgroup on Facebook, pop in and let them know or contact them via email on

There will be refreshments and craft activities for the children at playgroup. Playgroup are again running this event alongside Carlton Village Halls Apple Festival, the Village Hall will be providing freshly squeezed apple juice, stalls, Bake off - prizes for the best apple bake and refreshments. All in all, it sounds a super afternoon!

We are producing scarecrows (one from each class) as part of the event, which I’m sure will be brilliant again this year.

Change of Date:

Next week’s planned Lunch for Oak class/Reception will be now happening later in the term – this date will be confirmed to you next week.

  • Internally run clubs start next week – Week beg 1st October 2017

Have a great weekend! Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Kind regards

Jon Watson
