We are very proud of how the Neptune children have settled into year 1 and 2. We have been very busy learning the story of the tiger who came to tea. They have impressed us by using actions to help remember the story. We have also been busy with our place value work in maths.

Last Weeks Catch Up

Ruby class week have been very busy in their maths lessons. When the sun was shining we went outside and were busy with lots of measurement work. We even found how wide the playground is. Then when the sun wasn’t shining we made fraction towers.  We had to make different towers such as 1/4 red 2/4 blue and 1/4 yellow.

In our Maths lessons this week we have been working on our problem solving skills. We had lots of shape problems to solve. We had to persevere and keep on trying when our first ideas wasn’t the right one. Some of the problems had clues we had to read carefully and use these this to help us find the correct solution.

Last Weeks Catch Up 07.07.17

This week in our maths lessons we have been learning lots about shapes. We have learnt the names and described lots of the properties for example how many vertices and edges the shapes have. We made some 3D shapes out of playdough and straws. Can you name our shapes?

Ruby class have been focusing on question sentences and exclamation sentences in our English work. We know an exclamation sentence  must start with the word what or how. However we found lots of words can start a question sentence such as when, where, is, do, could and should?

Last Weeks Catch Up 23.06.17

This week in Maths we have been practising telling the time.  We know there are 60 minutes in an hour and 24 hours in a day. We were able to read the time on the clocks showing o clock, half past, quarter past and to. We could also add the hands onto the clocks.

Last Week's Catch Up 15.06.17

In our Science lessons this week we have learnt about the 7 life processes. The children could identify living  and non-living. They could explain to others how they knew if something was alive or not.  We learnt about  MRS GREN and how this will help us to remember the 7 life processes.

Last Weeks Catch up 09.06.17

Following our visit to the church, we have started to learn about a special place for Muslims. We are looking at Islamic artefacts and the layout of a Mosque.

The children learnt that Muslims pray towards Mecca on a prayer mat and that their holy book is called the Qur’an.

Last Weeks Catch Up 26.05.17

Ruby class enjoyed a special visit to St Mary’s Anglican Church on Wednesday afternoon. The children in Ruby and Emerald class were able to spot different parts of the church including the font, stained glass windows, the altar and the lectern. We thought about how we felt in the church , what we could hear and the different colours in  the church.

Ruby classRuby classThis week in Ruby class we have been working hard on our reading skills. The children have been reading a variety of texts including poems, stories and information texts. We have also been reading alien words in our phonics lessons. They have been very careful to read all of the sounds in the words.
